Thomas G. Moffitt assists developers, property owners and investors with all their real estate needs. He has broad experience in every aspect of the sale and acquisition of industrial, retail and residential properties.
Mr. Moffitt counsels borrowers in highly involved financing of commercial real estate. He works closely with landlords and tenants negotiating leases for retail, office and industrial space. He also advises condominium developers on conversions and new construction projects.
In addition, Mr. Moffitt represents developers and property owners in land use matters. These include zoning modifications, subdivision approvals and annexation agreements. Obtaining tax relief for real estate owners is a significant part of his practice.
Along with his real estate focus, Mr. Moffitt forms business organizations and guides middle market companies on operational issues, as well as disputes with vendors and customers.
Many Chicago area banks have benefited from Mr. Moffitt’s advice on operations and litigation matters, including mortgage foreclosures. He also protects the rights of secured creditors in bankruptcy proceedings.
Mr. Moffitt has in depth experience in real estate litigation, including “specific performance” actions, suits to quiet title, tax deed proceedings, and mechanics’ lien claims. He has litigated numerous trials in commercial matters and has argued many times before the appellate court. In addition, Mr. Moffitt has obtained many favorable jury verdicts and settlements in personal injury actions.
