Barry Siegal's primary areas of focus are representing closely-held business in most of their commercial legal matters, as well as business owners, executives and investors with respect to estate and tax planning.While in law school, Mr. Siegal was an associate editor of the Journal of
Criminal Law, Criminology and Police Science.
In the area of estate planning, Mr. Siegal has been involved not only in drafting estate planning documents, such as living trusts, wills, irrevocable trusts, and powers of attorney, but also in highly sophisticated techniques for larger estates, such as family limited partnerships, charitable split-interest trusts, grantor retained interest trusts ("GRATS") and personal residence trusts. He also has significant expertise in protecting the client’s assets against the claims of potential creditors, through the use of domestic asset protection trusts, special needs trusts and "OBRA" trusts.
Mr. Siegal assists business owners with respect to all legal matters, including establishing corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies; income tax planning, planning for mergers and acquisitions and planning for the protection and succession of their business interests in the event of death, disability or retirement. He has authored numerous published articles regarding commercial law, tax law and estate planning and is a frequent lecturer for local and regional groups on these subjects. Further, Mr. Siegal was an adjunct professor of law at DePaul University (1982 - 1987) where he taught estate planning.
